Hello friends! A slight disclaimer: I am going to switch up the blog style a bit to test what works and what doesn’t. Let me know if you like the new style, prefer the old, or tell me, Gabrielle, scrap this blogging altogether!
There’s a moment I always recognize.
It’s the pause right before a client says, “I don’t know why this feels so hard.”
This project started exactly there.
My client, a brilliant, accomplished, deeply self-aware individual, reached out because their home felt “off.” They had the budget for new furniture, new art, and even a full redesign if needed. But something told me early on this wasn’t about buying more things.
It was about releasing old ones.
Their space was beautifully curated, do not get me wrong… but for a version of their life that no longer existed.
Furniture was bought during survival mode.
Decor chosen during a season of proving.
Layouts built around scarcity instead of ease.
So instead of rushing into sourcing, I asked a different question:
“Who do you need this space to support now?”
Silence.
Then instant realization.
That’s when design becomes monumental.
We didn’t start with Pinterest. We started with honesty.
We cleared the room, both physically and emotionally. Pieces that no longer aligned were donated or re-homed to another appreciative individual. What stayed was intentional. We reoriented the layout to invite rest instead of productivity. Light instead of heaviness. Flow instead of control.
And here’s the part most people don’t expect:
Their confidence instantly changed.
We began to see hosting gatherings again.
Better rest.
We start seeing unapologetic uniqueness for their taste.
Because when your environment reflects who you are becoming, not who you were trying to survive, everything shifts.
Luxury isn’t always about more.
Sometimes it’s about alignment.
Your home should feel like permission.
And sometimes, the most transformative design choice is letting go.
